Ep. 23 | How to Change Career without Previous Experience | Q&A with Shadé

Are you wanting to move into a new industry, with ZERO experience in the new industry?

If you’re anything like me, you enjoy variety. You like learning new things, meeting new people and continually growing your skills.

So, when I started my career working in a law firm, the knowledge that my future was to be a ‘lawyer’ worried me.

“Boring!” I thought to myself.

Now, I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with being a lawyer - it just wasn’t for me. I needed the excitement of not knowing which exact role I’d be in in 2 years, 5 years, 10 years… rather than the ‘boring’ certainty that I’d be a lawyer for the rest of my days (I know, a little dramatic, but it’s how I felt!).

I felt stuck… and that made me miserable.

At the time, it didn’t even cross my mind that I could change industries.

And I had NO idea how much happier I would be when I actually made the leap (and how good it would feel to say “I’m an ex-lawyer"!).

The fact is, you're never stuck - there are always options.

Whether you’re not loving your current role, you’re not being appreciated, you’re feeling bored, you want to broaden our your experience or you just want to try something different, you can absolutely change industries!

“But how Shadé?! How do I convince a new employer that I have something of value to offer when I have ZERO experience in the new industry?”

I hear you, and don’t worry - I got you!

As women, we have a tendency to focus on what we lack, what we ‘don’t have' and all of our gaps. And by focussing on these things, of course we start to feel that we don’t have anything to offer.

But here's the thing - you don’t need to have experience in an industry to bring something of value. In fact, sometimes NOT having experience can be a real asset!

If you’re curious to learn why, check out today’s episode of Q&A with Shadé, where I share the best strategies to help you impress the interviewer and secure that new role. It was with Javier, one of my wonderful followers who wanted to move into an industry with no prior experience.
